MVCAP Emergency Services Program

Emergency Services provides one-time financial assistance when no other resources are available, solving urgent, short-term problems. Services include rent assistance, security deposits/first month rent, move-in costs for those transitioning from homelessness, eviction assistance, utility assistance, including water, for those facing shut-off, have no service, or to pay an arrearage in order to establish new service. Other urgent needs are determined on a case-by-case basis. An emergency is a situation that arose recently and unexpectedly, creates an immediate, non-deferrable need, and is not caused by unreasonable conduct of the applicant. The customer must have adequate income to cover future expenses.

What do I need to bring?

  • Photo ID
  • Social Security cards for everyone in your household
  • Proof of income for the last 90 days - for you and everyone in your household over the age of 18. Could include:
    • Paystubs: If paid weekly - 13 paystubs | Bi-weekly - 7 paystubs | Monthly - 3 paystubs
    • Child Support Printout for the last 90 days (If you have a Child Support Order the printout is required even if you are not currently receiving payments)
    • Social Security or SSI Award Letter
    • Public Assistance: TANF |OWF| ADCR | DA Printout including current month
    • Unemployment - summary printout of current claim history
    • Self-Employed - Recent IRS Form 1040 with Schedule C
    • Support Provided by Others - letter with name, address, and contact information from person providing support, describing how much they give and how often
    • Zero or Limited Income – Documented proof of how you are meeting your needs.
  • Housing
    • Current lease with names of all residents
  • Utilities
    • DP&L, Water, and/or Vectren bill with account number

MVCAP Transportation Services Program

Transportation Services assistance to help Montgomery County residents remove barriers to employment or provide transportation to medical appointments through the RTA Connect program. Lack of transportation means an individual is temporarily experiencing a hardship, may be unemployed and actively seeking employment, or employed and needs temporary assistance to get to and from their job. RTA Connect customers must apply through RTA, and provide an RTA Connect ID and proof of disability. Services include bus passes, gas cards, limited vehicle repair (applicant must show proof of ownership), and automobile insurance payments if the driver is at risk of losing their driver's license.
